The flat

Wednesday, September 9th, 2009

Back in Bristol means back to the flat antics. Everyone has not always been around but there has been enough coming and going to make for a very interesting few days. It seems we have now found a final two people to fill the house too.

First things: Josh seems to have passed his resits which is a big relief. As a consequence he has been going hyper with planning fun things for us. It seems I will be going canoeing/camping for a few days and then going to Amsterdam with the electrical engineering crew plus flatmates past and present. Somewhere in amongst all of that I need to go to London and see Orsi’s and Dave’s new place. And I need to organise my kite society for next year. And I need to get a significant amount of work done.

There has been lots of flat cooking which has been fun and very much missed over the last three weeks – Josh’s orange curry is still legendary and Laurence pulled out the most epic pie in the world three days ago. I don’t know where he got his housewife streak from but it was an epic 2.5hr effort!

Also had dinner plus banter with the 5th year EngDes people which was great fun. Some brilliant stories about engines falling out of cars and adventures in Italy and the annoyances of my course. There has been ice skating and there has been the ‘Propaganda Mini Festival’ at Syndicate. There has been Terry Pratchett movie watching (I didn’t even know there were any!), and there have been a few episodes of tying teddy bears to kites. And it has been fantastic.

Probably best if term doesn’t start tooo soon =)

Ice Skating

Monday, August 31st, 2009

Dave is a little bit obsessed so we missioned it out to Tokyo ice rink today to have a nose around and see if there is any local ice hockey scene. It turns out that there probably isnt, but we thought we would have a skate around anyway – if just to get out of the rain and the cold(!). It costs 1800yen including skate rental which is a massive twelve quid. And we didnt stay very long because they had about twenty pro figure skaters intimidating us in the middle with their tripple lutz combos and goodness knows what else. Even worse, they were mostly about seven. And me and dave like to think we are not the most terrible skaters in the world…

But tonight was Sushi again and in Tokyo you cannot go wrong.?It was ammmazing and sweet and tasty and lush and I cannot bear the thought of going home and leaving it behind.?Tomorrow, provided it is not typhooning too hard, will be disneyland in order to go out with a bang. Cant wait!

See you all Wednesday night x

Ice dancing

Sunday, July 26th, 2009

Hmm, I really absolutely definitely never in a million years thought I would be getting up at the insanely early hour of 6.40 on a sunday morning in the middle of my summer holiday. I expected even less that I would be doing this for the sake of a try it out session of ‘dancing on ice’. But 4 hours 20 mins later I was very glad I got out of bed.

It was extremely hard and surprisingly tiring but really good fun. It is the same great feeling of being in sync with the music and another person that I get from Latin and Ballroom but with added floatyness and gliding around. I really don’t need another hobby at the moment. But lets face it my competent hockey days are over so maybe this is better?
