You know you have finally made it in the kitesurfing world when someone offered to show you one of britains elusive top secret flat water kiting spots. I couldn’t believe my luck, smooth strong 25 mph wind and not a ripple in sight. And only four of us from brizzle plus three other locals. I haven’t had such a good and easy for learning session in years. Well that was at least until I massively stacked it doing a huge jump with a double rotation and somehow sent my kite into a megaloop. And got wiplash. But it was sooo worth it cause I now have the top secret gps coordinates too…
5th freahers fair and equally mental as ever. We reckon we knicked a lot of members from the windsurfers which is always the aim and giving out free biscuits was the best investment ever! Bring on this year =)
No big results from Sheffield last weekend. It was a very long day leaving at 5am and getting home at 4am, but it was great fun anyway. First and only time I will be on Bristol A-team I think. I also missed my first ever coursework deadline because of practicing for it so I think I will need to work on my time management!
Despite starving myself for a day in order to be able to manage a second three course dinner in as many days I could still barely cope by the time it got to dessert. But the ballroom dancing society chirstmas dinner and winter ball was wonderful all the same; and clearly shows that young people can have alcohol-fueled fun whilst remaining civil (if not always sensible). Why do people not organise these things anymore?
But now I am sad because I have just written my to-do list for the christmas holidays and I actually have to scroll down in my calendar application to see all of the entries =(
I think it is so funny that brussel sprouts cause such controversy. I mean british traditional christmas dinner is pretty weird what with strange inventions like the yorkshire pudding and stuffing and things, but the only part that really bothers people are the brussel sprouts.
We had our kitesurfing society christmas meal yesterday at a great pub called the Lansdown at the top of Clifton Hill; our own private room, christmas crackers, banter and fun and it was great like usual. Tim, as per tradition guessed the answer to every cracker joke we read to him. But about two thirds of the people down my end of the table specifically chose non-traditional main meals just to avoid the sprouts. One guy even went as far as choosing something he was not even sure he would like, just to be sure there would be no sprout infestation on his plate!
I was so full after my starter, nutloaf and apple crumble that I couldn’t eat breakfast this morning which is pretty unusual for me. Anyway, I believe I need to continue fasting because the next one is wednesday and there will be one more soon after that. By the time I go home I will be quite ready for a change and some nice ‘sil i senapsås’!
First off, Cata I am really sorry I didn’t call yesterday or today, it has been a bit stupidly hectic but that is no excuse because there is always time to remember a five minute phone call. I will make it up to you on my imminent and obligatory visit after christmas! Hope you enjoyed your visit from your parents.
You will doubtless be board of dance competition posts but it is really all I do so you may have to put up with them. This weekend we got into the team jive final which is unbelievably good and our best result ever. The adrenaline will not be wearing off for several days so I am going to have to go and get drunk to celebrate and neutralise the effect. Oh and Bristol A-Team won again.
Well done to my cousin Stephen who has just started dancing beginners for Southampton Uni and had a very successful first comp in my opinion.
Super stoked with this weeks competition results! Warwick is a massive comp early on in the year with all of the best unis present i.e. oxbridge… Well done to Bristol A for reaching the finals of division 1 and Bristol C who really deserved to win division 2 – scandalous you guys were only given fourth place. Good effort Bristol B which surprisingly enough was me this week. We got through some rounds in Division 1 but no final this time. Next week at bath on the other hand…
Thanks ever so much Sammy for some great dancing this early in the year. Out of hospital friday night, four and a half hours practice Saturday and a twelve hour competition on Sunday and I don’t know how you did it! We didn’t do so well in the intermediate ballroom in the individual competitions; we performed an awesome waltz (easily the best we have ever done) but we somewhat let down by our quickstep so we didn’t get through any rounds. Best we actually learn our steps for next week…
We got to the quarter finals in the novice latin individual competition though, with the hottest, steamiest, sexiest rumba of the novices in our massively biased opinion. We though our jive was shockingly bad, but on the videos it actually looks pretty good! Again, we better actually learn our steps next time!
And obviously congratulations to our fantastic beginners who wiped the floor with oxbridge in the latin, and did a great job supporting Bristol D in the team comp. Can’t believe I have only six days to learn a tango and a cha!
After dancing practice last night I became the proud temporary owner of a somewhat dodgy dark navy tail suit. I was not fat enough for any of the nice black ones but I am first on the list when they go and buy more.
Will be dancing B-Team Jive this weekend which is a massive honour but massively scary. I am supposed to be on the ballroom team and we are not very good at jive in our opinion. Also only the best unis will be at the competition: Oxford, Cambride, Imperial, Warwick
Apparently I have now got to go and get my hair cut =(
