Camping and Kitesurfing

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Hello all! I am back from a fantastic three days of camping in Cornwall. It was the last trip of the year for the kitesurfing society, but it turned out to be a great bunch of people that were mostly my flatmates and close friends. We were camping right next to the beach of the beautiful Gwithian bay which looks something like this:

The scary part was that I had to drive a van full of kitesurfing kit down there. This involved driving on the left with the steering wheel on the right, changing gear with my left, having no rearward visibility, driving a diesel, coping with rush hour and being surprised at how sloppy powered steering feels – I don’t get any of this with my beautiful convertible back home in quiet Sweden! But I survived and didn’t eat into any of the £500 insurance excess which is the main thing. But I certainly hope someone else can take over next time.

Other than that we had a great time having BBQs, chatting, sunbathing and flying kites. The weather really was perfect and I am sure everyone had a great time. We even had an epic night out in St Ives which started with fish and chips at the Sloop Inn on the harbourside, and ended with table football in Sr Ives’s only night club.

Yesterday I wandered into my old work in Cheltenham to see what was going on. It turns out that major chaos had just broken out on the day I choose to visit so I spend most of the morning making people fresh coffee to stop them from being too stressed. Seems like not much has changed in a year. The really cool part was my boss’s kit car which he has just finished (but not quite painted yet). It is made of fully hand layed up carbon composite (stolen from work) and has a triumph daytona motorbike engine. At only 480kg it absolutely flies as he proved when he took me out for a spin. I am sooo inspired to build my own. I cannot wait till I get a job so i can afford to get started =)

Tomorrow I am flying up to Edinburgh to see my dad and my grandparents. I hope to get lots of rock climbing, hill walking and tennis in, so expect an update in about 10 days when I get back…
