Camping and Kitesurfing

Saturday, June 20th, 2009

Hello all! I am back from a fantastic three days of camping in Cornwall. It was the last trip of the year for the kitesurfing society, but it turned out to be a great bunch of people that were mostly my flatmates and close friends. We were camping right next to the beach of the beautiful Gwithian bay which looks something like this:

The scary part was that I had to drive a van full of kitesurfing kit down there. This involved driving on the left with the steering wheel on the right, changing gear with my left, having no rearward visibility, driving a diesel, coping with rush hour and being surprised at how sloppy powered steering feels – I don’t get any of this with my beautiful convertible back home in quiet Sweden! But I survived and didn’t eat into any of the £500 insurance excess which is the main thing. But I certainly hope someone else can take over next time.

Other than that we had a great time having BBQs, chatting, sunbathing and flying kites. The weather really was perfect and I am sure everyone had a great time. We even had an epic night out in St Ives which started with fish and chips at the Sloop Inn on the harbourside, and ended with table football in Sr Ives’s only night club.

Yesterday I wandered into my old work in Cheltenham to see what was going on. It turns out that major chaos had just broken out on the day I choose to visit so I spend most of the morning making people fresh coffee to stop them from being too stressed. Seems like not much has changed in a year. The really cool part was my boss’s kit car which he has just finished (but not quite painted yet). It is made of fully hand layed up carbon composite (stolen from work) and has a triumph daytona motorbike engine. At only 480kg it absolutely flies as he proved when he took me out for a spin. I am sooo inspired to build my own. I cannot wait till I get a job so i can afford to get started =)

Tomorrow I am flying up to Edinburgh to see my dad and my grandparents. I hope to get lots of rock climbing, hill walking and tennis in, so expect an update in about 10 days when I get back…

Picnic

Monday, June 15th, 2009

It is great that the super warm weather has come back for a bit. My flat had a random picnic yesterday which was nice. Tom thought it was a great idea to hit things into the air and let them land on his head:

Tom + bat + ball

I am off to cornwall tomorrow for three days of kitesurfing, frisbee, BBQs, beer and banter so have a great week and I will get back to you soon =)

The Globe

Saturday, June 13th, 2009

I went to the Globe with Claire to see Romeo and Juliet on thursday. Apart from having to stand up due to my strictly limited budget it was absolutely amazing. At the best of times you can’t go wrong with R+J, it has the classic heart wrenching story and some superb lines – but in the right setting and performed in the traditional way it was captivating. Oh, and the sword play was sooo cool, don’t know how they didn’t end up killing each other in rehearsals.

We also had pizza at the rumoured best pizzaria in London – Rossopomodoro in covent garden if you were wondering. Not sure it was quite as amazing as everyone made out, but it was very tasty indeed and highly recommended if you don’t mind some rather ‘abrupt’ service from the italian staff.

I know it is very sneaky going to London without seeing all the people I am supposed to see but I will be back to make up for it soon =)

Back on track

I’m done I’m done I’m done I’m on holiday!! Ok so actually that is slightly old news but I’m still loving it. Such a relief to be finished with this year – it has been really tough but easily my most fun year at uni so far. Loads of stuff happened and I hope I will get up to loads over this very long and sunny summer break. I promise I will get back to keeping you all updated on here.

End of exam celebrations involved this sizable effort:

Caipirinhas at Las Iguanas happy hour =)

It was made all the more difficult because they kept clearing up our glasses as we finished them so we had to resort to hiding the empties under a chair. And yes there were only two of us.

I have also been generally enjoying the fantastic weather we have been having and have broken out in a multitude of freckles whilst sitting in the park and reading books – I had forgotten how much fun fiction can be! I saw Claire’s musical on Wednesday which was fantastic, great singing, lots of jokes and as lead ‘soiled dove’ I thought she did an awesome job. Finally I have also started booking up summer things like a few days in Cornwall and a week in Edinburgh to see my dad and grandparents. London people shouldn’t worry I will be coming to see you soon =)
